Shadows
a delight to my eyes
rare shadows, fresh snow
lit by a fleeting sun
Wednesday, January 30, 2013
It happened one night
I wake, and
Willow, laden with snowfur and diamonds,
rests her elegant elbows
on the porch railing
Monday, January 28, 2013
Trapped by beauty
This evening’s snow
blossoms on the willow
and creates a pure white edging along the railing
A false harbinger of spring?

Promises, promises….
A sympathetic sun
tunnels through low clouds
to deliver a promise to winter weary souls
Thursday, January 24, 2013
Looking ahead
I sip my morning coffee
as the cars slip silently through
newly fallen snow,
and plan a bed of bright hollyhocks
for summer

Blue Skies, smiling on me…..
For the first time in two months
I travel the Yellow Lake Pass
through valley fog.
Arriving at the summit ~
blessed with misty hills and radiant skies.
My spirits lifted.

Burrowing
the small village,
wrapped in cotton wool.
Hidden from the hills;
waiting for spring to escape
it’s own cocoon.

Winter grasses
White linen
crisp and freshly sprayed
with frosted starch
Thursday, January 17, 2013
High on the Hill
Ice crystals
gleaming, magical
transforming a resting world
with frosty diamonds

Radio City presents Handel
Handel’s glorious Choral Celebration music……
I close my eyes and listen to the horns, the strings
the pure tones of the soprano, the rich bass.
And I imagine the notes rising up through the nave
to reflect the glory of the music
in the tender, fiery sky

The garden on 10th Avenue
I pick my way to the church this morning
making my way over mounds of ice and snow
and as I am inclined these days my mind leaps ahead to spring,
or back, to gardens I have loved intimately
and with passion.

More Magic
Golden raisins, ebony bananas,
jeweled cranberries
and rich, crunchy walnuts
morph into tea time muffins
Sunday, January 13, 2013
Behold the dawn
A raspberry sherbet
escapes heaven’s soda fountain.
lying in a celestial puddle
on the rim of the eastern hills
Saturday, January 12, 2013
All a dither
an inquisitive blue jay
comes to my kitchen window
to inquire as to what I might be doing…..
Well of course, – running for the camera, with soapy hands -
all a dither!

Promises
today
in the sunshine,
against the blue sky,
the pussy willow makes joyful promises
of February opulence

January 10th, 2013
Just the two of us
my youngest son and I
and we have a conversation of sweet note
over a cup of coffee, a slice of birthday cake and ice cream

The delphinium, if in the spring
it needs to be divided
plant the tender little new shoots
discard the hard old heart!
Can anyone credit such beauty
could hide a 'hard old heart'?

January 8th, 2012
Tuesday, the 8th
Under the snow lies the hellebore
the mariposa lily
and a myriad of yellow bells
all whispering of hope
Monday, January 7, 2013
Monday, the 7th
Once again we are enveloped
in great drifts of snow
the blue jays dart through the dark trees,
brilliant against the white flakes
that fall, and fall, and fall.....
endlessly.

Sunday's Stone
Sunday, January 6th, 2013
My new birthday slippers
tickle my fancy
and lighten my heart
Saturday, January 5, 2013
Saturday, January 5th, 2013
I dream of spring and apple blossoms
whilst Winter lavishes me with
grey skies, slippery roads
and the need for a cane -
which makes me feel like an old woman, alas
Friday, January 4th,2013
away with the garlands,
the toy soldier
the babe and the shepherds.
the candle stubs, the twinkling lights
but the spirit lingers
Thursday, January 3, 2013
January 3rd, 2013
what magic garners warmth
from puffed up feathers?

Another small stone from the Similkameen
In the midst of drifting snow
I dream of blue skies
and pussywillows

January 1, 2013
A Small Stone from the Similkameen
delicate and slow to bloom
the paperwhites extend their lovely fragrance
into january
and I am reminded why I love them so.
